    About our US/Russia news

Breaking news and the latest updates on US-Russia relations including military news, political meetings, and treaties.

US-Russia relations, and US-Soviet relations before them, have been typically characterised by mistrust and hostility. During the Cold War, the capitalist USA and the supposedly communist Soviet Union (analysts have commented that the USSR represented a system of state capitalism) vied for the global preeminence of their national interests and their respective ideologies.

Initially, relations between the two countries thawed following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Presidency of Boris Yesltin. Relations between the two states, however, deteriorated following the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. Relations further soured following Russia’s annexation of Crimea, Russia’s military assistance to the Donbass separatists, Russia’s military intervention in the Syrian Civil War, accusations of election interference, and the invasion of Ukraine.
