Latest news on Maui, the second-most-visited and the second-largest island in Hawaii, with around 2.8 million visitors and 727 square miles of land area each year. It is also known as the Valley Isle, because of the isthmus that connects the two volcanic areas of the island: the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala.

In 2023, Maui was hit by several wildfires that have killed at least 36 people and destroyed hundreds of buildings. The fires have been fanned by strong winds from a distant hurricane, making them hard to contain.
