Founded in 1997, the Wild began their inaugural season at the start of the 2000/01 season. They play their home games at the Xcel Energy Center located in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
They are yet to make an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, with their best season to date coming in 2007/08 when they won their divisional championship.
They also have minor league affiliations with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Iowa Heartlanders of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
