Founded in 1972 as the Quebec Nordiques, the franchise was moved to Colorado in 1995. During their first season in Denver, the Avalanche won the Pacific Division and went on to sweep the Florida Panthers in the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals. They have gone on to win a total of three Stanley Cups, with their most recent feat coming in the 2021/22 season.
The Avs play their home games at the Ball Arena located in Downtown Denver. The Arena is shared with the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association and the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League.
They also have minor league affiliations with the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
