Johnny Depp is an American actor, famed for his roles in movies including Pirates of the Caribbean, Edward Scissorhands and the Fantastic Beasts films.
Born John Christopher Depp II on 9 June 9 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky, Depp is one of the highest paid actors of his generation. He rose to prominence in the 1980s, making his film debut in 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, before cementing his status as a teen idol via the television series 21 Jump Street (1987–1990).
Depp has subsequently collaborated on eight films with director, producer, and friend Tim Burton, and became known for his versatility as an actor, starring as the title character in a number of motion pictures, including Cry-Baby (1990), What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). He won the Golden Globes Best Actor award for his performance of the title role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), and has been nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Actor.
Depp has two children with French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, while his marriage to actress Amber Heard, which ended in 2016, has led to a series of court cases involving allegations of abuse.
