About our Lebanon news

Latest news on Lebanon, officially the Republic of Lebanon. Get breaking news and updates on Lebanese politics, economy, and international relations.

Beginning the 20th Century as a subdivision of the Ottoman Empire, Lebanon became a French Mandate after the First World War until its independence in 1943. Lebanon, however, has been rocked by turmoil and crises with the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) and the joint occupation of the country by Israel and Syria, ending in 2000 and 2005 respectively. Civil unrest has continued to feature in Lebanese politics till this day with the Cedar Revolution in 2005, the 2011 Lebanese protests, and the 17 October protests in 2019. At present, Lebanon is in the grips of a liquidity crisis, with the Lebanese Pound devalued by 90% in February 2023.
