    About our Brian Kemp news

Latest news on Brian Kemp, an American politician serving as the 83rd governor of Georgia since January 2019. He was previously Secretary of State of Georgia from 2010 to 2018.

Kemp was born in Athens, Georgia, and raised in Madison County, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in agriculture. After college, Kemp returned to Madison County to run his family's small business, Kemp Poultry. He later diversified his business portfolio to include financial services and real estate development.

In 2002, Kemp ran for the Georgia General Assembly, but was defeated in the Republican primary. He was elected to the state legislature in 2006 and served two terms. In 2010, he ran for Georgia Secretary of State and won. He was re-elected in 2014.

As Secretary of State, Kemp oversaw Georgia's elections and was a vocal supporter of voter ID laws. He also advocated for stricter penalties for voter fraud.

In 2018, Kemp ran for governor and defeated Stacey Abrams in a close race. He became Georgia's first Republican governor since Sonny Perdue left office in January 2011.

As governor, Kemp has signed into law a number of conservative bills, including a "fetal heartbeat" abortion ban and a bill allowing guns to be carried in some places of worship. He has also appointed a number of conservative judges to the state's courts.
