    About our Polio news

Latest news on polio, also known as poliomyelitis, a highly infectious viral disease caused by the poliovirus. The virus primarily affects children under the age of five and can cause paralysis or even death.

Symptoms of polio include fever, fatigue, headache, vomiting, stiff neck, and pain in the limbs. In some cases, the virus can also cause permanent paralysis, usually of the legs.

Before the development of the polio vaccine in the 1950s, polio was a major public health concern in many parts of the world. The vaccine, which is typically given in a series of doses to infants and young children, has since been highly effective in preventing new cases of the disease.

Thanks to widespread vaccination campaigns, polio has been largely eradicated in many parts of the world, including North and South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. However, the disease remains endemic in a few countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

Efforts to eradicate polio entirely have been hindered by a variety of factors, including limited access to healthcare in some areas, vaccine hesitancy, and political instability.

Despite these challenges, significant progress has been made towards eradicating polio, and ongoing vaccination campaigns are continuing to work towards eliminating the disease once and for all.
