Latest news on Croatia, a country in Southeast Europe that lies on the Adriatic Sea and borders Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Italy. Its capital and largest city is Zagreb, which is also one of its 20 counties The country has a population of about 3.9 million people and covers an area of 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles).

Croatia became an independent state in 1991 after declaring its secession from Yugoslavia, following a bloody war that lasted until 1995. Croatia joined NATO in 2009 and the European Union in 2013.

Croatia has over 1,000 islands and islets along its coast, as well as eight national parks and 11 nature parks. Some of its most famous attractions include the Plitvice Lakes National Park, the Dubrovnik Old Town, the Diocletian's Palace in Split, the Pula Arena, and the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč.
