Malaysia consists of thirteen states and three federal territories, separated by the South China Sea into two regions: Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo's East Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is the national capital, the country's largest city, and the seat of the legislative branch of the federal government.

Malaysia, a member of the Commonwealth, represents the political marriage of territories that were formerly under British rule. It was established in 1963, initially comprising of the territories of Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia), the island of Singapore, and the colonies of Sarawak and Sabah in northern Borneo. In 1965, Singapore was expelled from the federation and became an independent republic.

Malaysia's economy is considered one of the most robust in Southeast Asia. It is a major player in the global palm oil and rubber industries and has experienced significant growth in manufacturing and services sectors.
