Eritrea, officially known as the State of Eritrea, is located in the Horn of Africa region of Eastern Africa, sharing borders with Ethiopia, Sudan, and Djibouti. Its capital and largest city is Asmara.

Eritrea is a one-party presidential republic in which national legislative and presidential elections have never been held. Its current president, Isaias Afwerki, has served as president since its official independence in 1993.
