    About our Suez Canal news

Latest news on the Suez Canal, a man-made waterway that connects the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. It is located in Egypt and is one of the most important shipping routes in the world, allowing ships to pass between Asia and Europe without having to go around the southern tip of Africa. The canal was built in the mid-19th century and officially opened in 1869. It is approximately 120 miles (193 kilometres) long and ranges in width from about 500 feet (152 metres) to about 1,000 feet (305 metres). It is a vital artery for global trade and is used by an average of 50 ships per day. In recent years, the Suez Canal has been in the news due to incidents such as the grounding of the container ship MV Ever Given in 2021, which caused a major disruption in shipping traffic.
