    About our Wimbledon (tennis) news

The Championships, Wimbledon, best known simply as Wimbledon, and sometimes referred to as The Championships, is a grand slam tennis tournament played at the All England club in the Wimbledon area of London.

Wimbledon is the only grand slam event played on outdoor grass courts – though Centre and No.1 Court have retractable roofs – and is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, dating back to 1877.

Five major events are held each year, with additional junior and invitational competitions also taking place. The five main events include the Gentlemen's Singles, Ladies' Singles, Gentlemen's Doubles, Ladies' Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.

Wimbledon is traditionally staged over two weeks in late June and early July. The Championships is famed for its traditions, such as a strict all-white dress code for competitors, and the consumption of strawberries and cream by spectators.
