The Commanders were founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves, a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). They changed their name to the Boston Redskins in 1933 and moved to Washington in 1937. The side held this name for close to 90 years before rebranding to the Washington Commanders in 2022.
