    Oman, known officially as Sultanate of Oman, is a country located in West Asia. The country is situated on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, and spans the mouth of the Persian Gulf. Oman shares land borders with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, while sharing maritime borders with Iran and Pakistan.

    Oman is an absolute monarchy, in which all legislative, executive, and judiciary power rests in the hands of the hereditary Sultan. Oman's geography is diverse and characterised by a vast gravel desert plain that covers most of central Oman, with mountain ranges along the north (Hajar Mountains) and southeast coast (Dhofar Mountains). The country's capital and largest city is Muscat.
